About The Project:
The
Ridge is a 76-unit rental community situated on South Mannheim
Boulevard (NYS Route 32) in the village of New Paltz, NY. The project
is situated on a 10.7-acre parcel within walking distance of the
village center, shopping, schools and SUNY New Paltz. A key feature of
the project was the preservation and restoration of several acres of
previously disturbed federal wetlands on the site. An individual permit
was obtained from the Army Corps of Engineers (ACOE) to construct the
apartment complex in the previously disturbed wetlands and wetland
restoration. Upon completion, the project resulted in 5.0 acres of land
preserved as permanent open space. A variety of storm water treatment
practices are used to capture and treat runoff from the project before
it enters the sensitive wetlands on site. These include wet swales, a
storm water pond and several bio-retention cells (rain gardens) into
the landscape design throughout the site. The project also created
several hundred feet of new sidewalk along NYS Route 32, providing a
pedestrian connection between the project and the existing village
sidewalks.
